Dr. Emma Merry received her B.S. in Psychology from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. She then went on to earn her M.A. and Ph.D. in School Psychology from the Ohio State University. During her time at OSU, she participated in many field-based experiences in preschool, elementary, middle, and high school settings that provided her with a wealth of experience in assessment, intervention, and consultation. During her graduate studies, Dr. Merry served as a mental health consultant with the Child Development Council of Franklin County, supporting several local Head Start programs. Dr. Merry completed an advanced practicum at Ohio State’s Nisonger Center, specializing in preschool assessment. As a graduate assistant counselor with OSU’s Office for Disability Services, she gained experience working with and advocating for college students with disabilities. She also held a graduate teaching associate position during which she supervised undergraduate education students in their field placements. Dr. Merry’s dissertation research focused on social-emotional learning during out-of-school time in preschool-age students, for which she received the Education and Human Ecology Graduate Dissertation Fellowship and the Loadman Outstanding Dissertation Award. Dr. Merry has presented collaborative research at many local and national conferences including the annual conventions of the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Merry completed her pre-doctoral internship with Columbus City Schools in Ohio where she served as a school psychologist intern, completing psychoeducational evaluations, implementing academic and behavioral interventions, and consulting with teachers and parents. After her internship year, Dr. Merry and her husband moved to Greenville, SC where she worked as a school psychologist with Greenville County School District for four years. Through this experience, she further developed her skillset in supporting families as they navigate school-based special education services. As a school psychologist with GCSD, Dr. Merry also served as an intern supervisor and was a core member of a team that developed a parent academy to support parents of children who recently qualified for special education services. Dr. Merry completed her post-doctoral supervision hours with a local private practice child psychologist, furthering her experience with assessment and consultation.
Dr. Merry is a Licensed Psychologist and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She enjoys working with students and their families to help assess individual learning needs. In her free time, Dr. Merry enjoys spending time with family, traveling with her husband, reading, and baking. She loves living in Greenville and she is thrilled to be a part of the excellent team at Greenville Assessment and Learning Specialists.
